Would it be possible in present day or has it been tried to graft a Pumpkin plant to another root system like they do fruit trees? A hard wood plant like a grape vine trunk. Or better yet a Redwood tree (Ok that's just silly, but you get the idea I hope) Just something to allow the most amount of water and nutrients possible.

OK why would you? An Atlantic Giant produces the worlds largest fruits. Normally a graft is done to improve stock..Can't improve an Atlantic Giants roots from my side of the fence.

Just curious. But hypotheticly speaking if you had a pumpkin plant growing on large tree root sytem I wonder if it would be possible to do it in a day or a week what would take a normal growing season to do. Sooner or later someone is going to put some wierd genes into AG to try to make them grow faster and bigger than they would naturally. Time will tell.

Oh well as silly as it seems it was worth a good day dream for now. Pumpkins growing on redwood trunks with 100,000 pound fruits. Talk about building a Pumpkin house, lol!

Alright, if that won't work, how about doing this: Once a pumpkin is set on the primary, train all secondaries towards about 1' in front of the fruit. Then, graft all the primaries into the main at that spot. Talk about focusing your energies! Is this as crazy as it sounds? I assume that even if it did work, it would cause massive splits, but who knows?

I grafted a pumpkin to a cedar tree, now the moths don't eat my pumpkins, and when i'm done growing I just cut the top off and have instant cedar chests.

ain't gonna happen! graft will not happen. big pumpkin needs bigger root system. figure how to grow more massive roots and a bigger pumpkin will not be far behind.

The only thing I can think of grafting wise, that would possibly be worth the effort, would be grafting onto a bean or other legume's rootstock, so the plant would have N-fixing abilities. Otherwise... why bother?
