I just finished watching Joel Hollands video from this year and I was wondering what, if any, purpose do tendrils have? I noticed he pulls them off.

Pumpkin plants in the wild forests where they naturally live don't have shovels and can't burry thier own vines for anchorage against winds etc....so they ordered tendrils from Farmtek and grab onto stuff to anchor themselves....since Joel Holland has domesticated the wild pumpkin plants and burries their vines he feels there's no need for tendrils I guess.....so he cuts them off.

are you sure they ordered from Farmtek G, i thought they got em from Growtek...lol. my hillrod friend Timmer calls them "tenticles" cuz when he first started growing i told him he might want to start snipping those tendrils off. he couldn't remember the word tendril and kept calling them tenticles and i would laugh and correct him. he now knows they are called tendrils but still calls them tenticles as a running joke. he sounds exactly like "Boomhower" on King of the Hill" and will say things like, "Ya man Shaz I went to adjust a God dang secondary and a couple tenticles had got a hold of my bamboo stakes and then snap, the gosh darn secondary snapped like a celery stick."

i prune mine cuz this scenario has happened to me before too. also sometimes when the main or secondaries are running, the tendrils grab onto anything from a stake, or a weed, or anything they can get a hold on and will hold the vine up and back instead of laying down nicely as it grows. i usually leave the first straight portion of the tendril alone and snip the grabber parts. that first straight section acts like a foot and helps support the main or secondary in an upright position to help protect against rolling vines in the wind.

One grabbed my cat once, it was gonna eat it to till I stepped in. Had them grab a car, a baby, one tripped me once (made me squish a fruit) but wouldn't admit to it. I cut em off. AleX Noel.

My buddy claims he has only felt real pain twice, in his life. The first time when a tentical grabbed him in a sensitive area. The second time he felt serious pain was when his tenticals reached the end, of the vine. He cuts what got him off.
