In many instances a cracked seed has germinated just fine. To be on the safe side if this is your only seed I would back it up with several other desirable seeds as backups.
This action would likely guarentee that you could keep your germination and planting on schedule this spring.

I believe most growers germ ample seed to assure success. Some would cry real tears, to know, how many normally fine seed did not take off, in last spring's cold weather. Those backups gave me the opportunity, to finally get one going after much early difficulty. This is not a singular incidence. Lots, of us, had all kinds, of difficulty, clear up through successful polination....not to overlook aborts.

I put a little peice of clear scotch tap on the crack to keep the air from getting to the inside of the seed. Most of the time a cracked seed shell will germinate with out any problem as long as the insides of the seed isnt cracked aswell.

On the side or down the middle, no difference. I have an 846 Jutras with a crack/split down one side also and NO internal damage. I sure wouldn't let that change my mind if I was planning to grow it.
If your not planning on growing it this year, than use Brooks idea with the tape for long term storage

Cracked seeds germinate & break their shells somewhat more consitantly than their sealed counterparts because they let water inside more easily. They don't store as long for the same reason.

Unless it is an old seed that was improperly stored, I wouldn't worry about it.

Some seeds are more prone to cracking as they age.

additionally, there is a hole a the pointed end of the seed.
so, air gets through there anyway, and, a split along the length of the seed as well as even if the seed-leaves are
protruding from the side of the seed, it will germinate jusssst fine. a split across the WIDTH of a seed i would be more careful WITH, but the same ideas apply--hope this helps
