Just an interesting thing to pass the time. Who is going to grow the second biggest fruit and get it weighed in 2006? Second biggest because we are first in all our minds as of now! Rules: To qualify they just have to weigh a fruit (no color/soundness/other rules), and it can't be you. Also list the weight of the fruit. AleX Noel.

There are a lot of folks that made it to 1300 lbs or more this year. Growers that finish first or second in a given year hardly ever finish off up there again according to statistics. My guess is it will come from either Ontario, New England or the West coast (Washington/Oregon)...that sounds safe, doesn't it?
How about Steve Connolly from Massechusetts at 1436 lbs? A 1214.5 and a 1333 in 2005.
Who do I feel "deserves" to win? Bryan Dueck (1x 1200, 2x 1300 off of three plants in the past three years) or Jerry Rose (3x 1300 last three years).

with the seed genetics that have been developed over the last five years or so id have to say its very possible that person who grows the second heaviest pumpkin this year quite possibly is someone most of us have never heard off (yet) outside of our sngpg band of merry men who ever knew or heard of scottie " to hottie" palmer before last year? look what he and his family accomplished. pap

I'm inclined to agree with Dick. Hottie genetics combined with club outreach & internet exposure is helping new growers to do the right stuff in clean fresh patch soil. Many of the more tenured growers have ended up with soil pathogens in their quest to grow.
The increasing resistive bell curve if you will.

if knowledge was all it took steve and many others would be world champs every year. knowledge passed on not passed over, coupled with a good seed, lady luck and some friendly advise here and there is all it takes (sometimes ) pap
