Need info from Local/Regional growers......
I have always planted around May 10-15. How soon should I start for a Mid August Fair. About 350 lbs was first place last year. I had one split at mid Aug at est of 600+ when I planted on the 13th of May.
IF planted Late April/Early May when is an estimated pollination date. For when I start seeds mid May I pollinate between July 5-20.
Top prize is only $3.00 so I really want to show the fairgowers what a Giant Pumpkin really looks like.
Thanks Tom

Local fair here is also in mid-August. when i plan on entering a pumpkin in the local fair i will start a seed 2nd week of April. The last frost date for my area is April 17th. but last year had a late frost in first week of May. I agree with Matt soil warming cables is a must. if you going to start this early.

Tom, our Fair in MN starts the 23rd of Aug. Both in 2004 and 2005 I started the seeds on April 25. In 2004 I won with a 713lb and 2005 with a 840lb. I started several on April 10 last year but they didn't make my goal of 750 lbs at the point. Last year the 840 measured as my 5th biggest one at fair time. I will try again to plant in early april with heating cables and a high tunnel.
