I'm planning on retiring from my present job within the next 5 years, and have considered taking up vermiculture to at least pay for my health insurance and/or supplement my retirement pension. Of course, I'd like to have some castings available for my pumpkin growing endeavors also.
Any of you had any experience in this and can you turn a profit without spending a fortune on initial investment?

Charlie You need to chat to a very knowledgable grower named Monty Wallace, Monty J on this Website. There is a very recent article Monty wrote on Vermiculture in the How To section on this Website.

you should start now, with a fairly small investment, you can sometimes find someone who will give you manure with red worms already there. I assume you have some land, you can grow the little buggers any where, but you need to keep in mind your winters out there. there is a lot of info on the web. Do a search for vermiculture, worms, composting
Here are a couple to get you started
