For those of you who are interested in what GP/GS subject I'm 'researching' in the patch for the next two seasons. You may want to read my journal I've just put up.
Suggestions on the study 'parameters' are always welcomed!

I'm glad you have the energy to do this.
I remember a good thread from many years back. I'll have to dig it out and send it to you. It went like this:
It's thought that there are three "genes" in giant pumpkin color. A "b" gene which is recessive, and gives the green and sometimes grey color.
There is a "B" gene, which gives white, cream, yellow, pink, salmon, and light orange. B is dominant over b.
Finally there is (thought to be) an "R" gene. This gives vibrant orange or even sometimes red color. R is dominant over b, and co-dominant with B. This co-dominance is all over, and causes every shade imaginable from white to red.
Of course, this might not be correct. There are a lot of holes. Some things seem to fit... sometimes we see a fruit that should be very green, and it turns up bright orange.

The "B" gene and "R" gene were diccussed in detail by 2 geneticists from the University of Oregon at a PNWGPG Seminar on genetics about 5 years ago. I video taped this Seminar and have footage in my video archives. If interested, contact me and I will dig out the footage and make copies available......geo.
