My sugestion is to keep it simple. Drop the price a little and take first solid offer.
By solid offer... I mean check to see if the person is married or singel. :)

What exactly do you mean by "gone bad?" Did you ever answer people's e-mail questions or were you working or something? I for one asked for the complete list & never heard a peep back from you, I also sent another message if we knew each other/if you were from here or the Mallorn list and same result, not exactly the best way to do business. I would have bid with a silent partner but we both backed out at the last minute because you never answered.
As an ebay seller, you can simply offer it to the next highest bidder for their bid price. It's a Second Chance Offer. You'd lose about $60 but when you're talking a grand, 60 shouldn't matter much. Then again, check your ebay account to see your upcoming bill from ebay to seee what their commission is!

He was quick to answer my questions...
The $940 bid was jacked up 3 times from his original higest bid of $880 because of the final non-winner's bidding.
I hate when I get a second chance offer at an amount I would have never bid except for being outbid by a defunct bidder. One of the flaws of Ebay in my opinion. It should go back the the 2nd highest bidders initial bid prior to getting bid up by a fake bidder.
The guy that backed out had at least 5 bids jacking up the price all along... Just an observation.

I've only received 2nd chance offers and never sent any, maybe he can offer anything between the lowest & highest, I don't know. Also, keep in mind he was willing to pay the 940, otherwise he wouldn't have bid that much. If I offered you $500, $600, $800, $1000 for a car, do you say you'll sell it to me for $500 or OK, $1000? I get your point too, what I'd do is file a non-paying bidder claim to try to get the ebay fees back, then relist the auction, or sell to the 2nd highest bidder as a 2nd chance offer at whatever the seller is allowed between the original and bumped.
ebay has been trying to eliminate direct dealings but people keep checking the box to hide their e-mail, or they click the yellow button to reply, which hides the e-mails of the parties & makes you use ebay to contact each other. Believe me, if I wanted to sell something, especially a big ticket item, I surely WOULD like my e-mail to be known to potential bidders.
If the high bidder stopped at less than 940, then we wouldn't be having this conversation. Also, Wickless was beat out by less than $3. Look at the timelines too, it's hard to follow who outbid who & who bumped who.
Are all the bidders members here?

Why heck ya break them down, and offer lots on seed exchange We all know its for cash, and give one day for folks to offer via private e- mail if your limit is not reached submit again. This way all have a chance, and you will most likely come out better than you wanted in the first place. Roger:)I'm sure you will.

He was quick to send me his list of seeds also.
Rdsta, Rog is right,if you put your seeds up seperate I can see two seeds bringing you over $1000 and thats not counting the rest of them.,I think if you put them up seperate on this site(give Ken and John a little kick back) you will more then double or triple your money for them great seeds.

So, is it open season on selling seeds on this site? Not likely. $1,000 for 2 seeds why get his hopes up? Would any of you really pay as much for a seed to a private party as you would in a 'charity' auction? It seem as though the price would naturally go down dramatically.
My additional 2 cents.
Also, rdsta, curious if you know the final bidder at all? Thanks.

awww come on Brent, the 723 bobier would bring 550.00 easy, and any of the top 3 seeds after the Bobier seed he listed would bring 400.00 or more. I guess it is open season on selling seeds on this site, look at all the seed websites that are avertised on here. Hey rdsta, got a idea, open a web site up then sell your seeds,,sheshhhhhh

Ditto on what brooks said, he's right!Lets not all act like saints here, Hes selling his collection for private reasons, and as far as this grower is concernd , it must be a dam good reason , thats all i need to know, money has changed hands more than once behind closed doors. I for one would love to bid on some if not all id give him a cashiers check for a $1000 today if given a chance, and i wont back out of a deal, and would be no hassels. The only thing i would regret, i would have to put in more overtime at work uuugg. But id go in with a smile. Roger:)

The key point is that the money from auctions goes to fund a club, a club that puts out prize money at weigh offs and sets up patch tours. Brooks, kinda disappointed in your response, I think people are forgetting about growing and just focused on winning something. I've been growing a short time compared to others but i've seen a change in the past 3 years.

I'm going to throw in my 2 cents here As a person who has spent money at auctions, etc. Sure times are changing, and it will continue to change. But truthfully, I don't see a problem with selling seed collections, if a seller and a buyer agree, then it's OK. A while back, a grower put seeds up, in trade for Best offer, he ended up with a puppy,(actually worth over $500.00) everybody went, sweet deal, why was that OK. The minute you put a dollar value on it, it becomes a sin, there is no difference, dollars or puppy's, He sold his seeds. Brent, the price does go down quite a bit.Trust me I know Tom, Brooks and Rog, are only telling the truth, and I agree with both of them. People just don't want to here, seeds for dollars. As times change, so do values. What's the difference $5.00 in a bubble pack, 10 years ago, or a puppy for a seed 2 year's ago, or an Auction on ebay, to the highest bidder. It's been going on for a long time, and will continue as long as there is supply and demand. The more it's out there, the more comfortable people become, and the more public it will be. And in time it will be second nature, and it will not even make the discussion board. Have I bought seeds "yes" will I do it again "probably" Eddy

I wish you all a personal best. Don
