hey teach. you should look into joining the ontario growers club for $20 it gives you access to the aggc. you can find answers to many of your questions there. it will be the best $20 you ever spent.

Which ancestory? Parents (P), the pumpkins themselves, grandparents (GP)? if you get into the GGP generation, that's alot of pumpkins to describe! AleX Noel.

I agree with Steve, you won't regret that 20 bucks.

Generally speaking from the lists on your last few posts for good orange progeny use. 1262 Emmons,810 Dill,1016 Daletas,825 Shymanski,940 Mombert 98,783 Daletas
Generally speaking the more 723 and 845 Bobier 00 the less consistantly orange the progeny.
Seeds from the 1068 Wallace have made pumpkins of every shape and color.
Heres a thread with descriptions of a few of the pumpkins you mentioned.

If you have specific seeds we could guess at the shape and color of the progeny.
Even better if you have specific proven seeds we could make a better guess at the color and shape of the progeny.
Even if that means the progeny will be predictably unpredictable.

I just read your diary post. I think your headed in the right direction using the selfed seed.

The information needed on these lines - is how many generations of same Color X same color they are. I do not wish to 'Guess' at what the color/shape of the progeny will be - since I'm trying to find the most 'true breeding' (or those with the most homologous alleles) lines to use.

I do have an individual with seeds from a 5 generation OrangeXrange that will be sending me a sample. Have not been able to find many lines that have been selfed for that many generations (which will give more matching alleles)

May end up having to 'backtrack' on most of these lines and self them for a year or two. Since even using orangeXorange for generations from different lines - could in fact be several different genes creating Orange in the various lines. I've got some 1Xselfed lines - so those will only take 2 more selfed generations to be considered relatively 'pure'

If you join the GVGO you'll get limited access to the AGGC. You get heirarchy trees, progeny trees & graph, report cards & photos of over 5000 pumpkins & squash listed on it's site. A great tool for any pumpkin grower. Of course you'll receive some great seeds & a nice newsletter every 4 months as well. Email me if your interested in joining.
