Since I'm having to backtrack a bit in order to get those homologous lines - for future crosses and study. There is one method that can help to determine how 'true breeding' a particular line is.... Grow several dozen offspring from the same parent seed and see what ratios occur.
Now that would take even more years - just to find out if I've got a 'true producing' enough lines in order to continue with the crossing phase of the study...
Sooooo... I have the materials to put up a fairly long/wide greenhouse. My theory is - that I can grow 2-3 large groups during the winter months. Get them to reach flower stage - and record the colors of the female organs. This can give me the green:orange ratio for each line. and those orange females can them be allowed to mature to 4 weeks (60lbs or so, this is when I seem to see the change from yellow/white to orange... or none at all)
Remember, I'm just trying to see how true to color production these lines seem to be... Wouldn't be fruitful to try a color study with heterozygous individuals.....
