Some Parisians would prefer to not serve an American. A friend sat in a restaurant for 2 hours before realizing he wasn't going to be served. He made a stink but it failed to solve the problem.

Maybe you should get a little Canadian flag pin and pin it to your collar? That's what my father does when he's over there. Seems to fool them rather nicely!
