This is the time of the year when people start getting vague about their progress. They answer "I'm doin' OK, I guess" and then they talk about the weather. Come October they show up with a monster.
So don't expect too much info about their progress from here on in.

Ummm, actually this is the time where most people are finalizing their line-ups. Most growers don't even have seeds in the dirt yet.

Some growers get "itchy feet" when the weather warms...they have yet to learn patience. We, in the Pacific Northwest, have yet to see any warmth for more than two days! It was 37° yesterday morning and we're lucky to see highs over 50° the next few days. It is just too wet and cold for us to get "itchy feet".

May 14th is our last frost date here, learned the hard way a couple of times before we took Stan's sage advice; Just need larger germination pots to hold them for an extra week or so if necessary.

It was 83 here yesterday and they are saying 85-87 today! The average high for this time of year is 63! But I still have two weeks before I will start my plants. Our average last frost date is April 22 and I will be starting my plants on the 29th.

i like some of you always thought that an early start would equate into a bigger pumpkin. it does , but only until the later plants catch up, and they will. the down side to planting to early is plant protection. not enough and a frost will put you out of business. to much and they can cook in the day time should you mess up on the air circulation.
unless you live in an area with extremely cold septembers you really dont need to jump the gun.
the east coast states as well as the pacific north west usually have very mild septembers. if the weather does shit the bed it does not usually happen umtil the very end of sept.

Some of us start an early plant for early...mid-August...state fairs. My early one...1125 Frantz is now showing a 3rd true leaf, and looking very healthy. I have it in a 4' x 6' cold frame. Heat is available if a cold night or two come along. Temps in mid 80's here and 10 day forecast is all nice and warm. Peace, Wayne

Started seeds day before this past Tuesday. Sounds a couple weeks early for this area, but I'm kinda in a little micro climate right here. My growing season is more in line with eastern Tennessee than eastern Ohio. Tomatoes have been in the patch for three weeks already. This is my first try at planting the AG's according to my actual growing season and not the calendar. We'll see how it goes.

More rain today. Consumnes River up to monitor at Michigan Bar about 7 miles east of us. This river is one of the few "wild" rivers left in CA no dams. Snow at Tahoe another in. so far and still snowing.

This was the quickest germination I've ever had on AG. All 20 sprouted last Saturday and are looking super. Just starting 4-leaf. Will need to set the peat pots into bigger containers or get them in the patch very soon!
