I kind of held off starting my seeds because of patch prep. It seems alot of people already have thiers started. I'm starting my seeds tommorrow, so is it to late. I think it's ok but i like to get others thought.

I usually dont start mine until the first week in may. We live in very similar climates and I've had good sucess in holding off a week or so.

Most people in the "average" pumpkin climate (northern U.S.) start the last weekend in April or the first one in May for the early Oct. weighoffs. It does seem that many of the newer growers this year (from the southern areas especially) are starting what I believe is way to early. The people excluded from this of course are the ones that would be too hot to grow in the summer. AleX Noel.

Ah, my wise advisor on the West Coast, said to start seeds at the end of April and in the hoop house/cloche in the first week of May. Usually my plants are good and healthy still by the end of September and our weigh-off is in October so that works great. For earlier weigh-offs I guess the plants need to go in earlier like Mike Franz and others do.

dave(7), I'm not sure about out there, but Topsfield is Sept. 30 (usually the first weekend in Oct.), and Frerichs is the next weekend (usually the second weekend in Oct., now the first). The Big E is usually the last Friday night in Sept., now the second to last. So no extra days here, maybe out West, but I'd bet against it. AleX.
