Will plants grow when it is overcast. On the SLO Coast it has been overcast or rainy for 30 of the last 40 days with no end in site! Best regards, FOGGY SLO!

Overcast should not hurt at all. When it is 105 in the valley we will be misting and shading. Unless you are in Paso Robles there should not be any problems. The cool in the summer is one reason I always went to summer school at Cal Poly.

We live on the coast too and our patch is about 1/2 mile from the ocean. Last year, we were able to grow a 409lb pumpkin. This year, we are putting up 4x6' greenhouses around the small plants with agribon(a light cotton like covering material that lets light in and keeps the heat in as well) as the cover. Inside the greenhouses it's warm and the soil gets heated up too. You can see them on our diary site under "creekside." They are very simple plastic walls and agribon tops with clips holding the light agribon on. We'll be putting our plants in them in the next few days. We all do have more challenges living on the coast. I think the biggest pumpkin grown near the Pacific coast is 650lbs.

In live in down town SLO. Not in the North Co like Paso. So we get lots of days with fog, just checking, does not sound like a problem.
