PATCH ELEPHANTS..Now I am no expert but we see this sort of thing happen every year.. Plants destroyed, no trace of foot prints, No visible marks of the plant being chewed on. Do not confuse a Patch Elephant with a Heffalump. Heffalumps are located in a small hundred acre woods. Patch Elephant leave no foot prints because legend has it they are very light footed and fly. We have seen there damage in almost every location possible. I am not sure if they are in Alaska. Since only a few crazy people plant pumpkins when there is still snow on the ground:). What cant you do to avoid damage? I do not know since so little is known about them.. No Pesticide is available.

Patch elephants do exist. Here is a rare photo of one, I believe the AG was estimated over 2000 at the time........

OHHH Sure No wonder why they destroy pumpkin patches....Someone is feeding them...No doubt someone also brought one across on a boat a hundred years ago. Then thought it would be a good idea to release a few into the wild to control the spread of the giant pumpkins.

Oh sure...tell her about Heffelumps & leave her in the dark about Woozles. Jessica might as well throw in the towel now & plant Zinnias. Patch Elephants hate Zinnias.

Patch Phants as I call them make great compost in large volumes, and they can be trained to eat cats. I'd be more concerned about Ware Rabbits myself.
