Subject: Warning: watch out for cutworms

To all the new(and maybe some of the not so new) growers; keep in mind, that cutworms can kill your young A.G. plants. They strike at, or near, the soil line(may actually do damage two inches below soil line). As long as they can wrap themselves aroung the young stems, they can spell lights out for your plants. I plan on putting two shish-kabob stick pieces along sides the stems of each of my transplanted A.G.s. I'll put them so they extend at least two inches above, and two inches below the soil line. I hope others will share what they do to prevent cutworm catastrophe. I've had them mow down many tomato transplants in the past.

Good point Doug. Plastic cups with the bottom cut out of them works well also. We put a slit up the side so we can put it around the seedling & tape it up. You can take it off in a couple weeks once the plant has grown some. Don't forget to put it a couple inches into the dirt.
