Well my main vine is now 3 feet long had to stake it against the wind.
Still looks like I have a possiblility of getting my first pumpkin this year.

At 3 feet, I think, you can begin to bury the vine. I do so and I'm only staking the tip. For that I use little bamboo sticks. I stake they crosswise like scissors over the vine. http://www.riesenkuerbis.org/html/jungpflanze.html I wish you that your possibility becomes true.

I'd be careful burying the vine so early, you might have issues getting male flowers like I did last year.
