I don't think club root and flat/double vine are related at all. I think club roots aren't genetic but are a seed with a radical that wasn't fully developed as a seed or one with a damaged radical... somehow. I had a club root last year. I grew the plant because it was an 845 Bobier. The plant grew well and did fine. I didn't get a spectacular fruit ... it stopped growing mid season... but I don't think that was related to the club root... if you want, you can see the plant in my diary from last year.
usually flat vines show up early in the first few feet.
