Any thoughts out there about making a solar chimney to allow ventilation for a cloche with a 6 mil plastic roof? How high should the black vent be to allow for natural convection? Turbine installation and control? Interested from hearing from all you engineers types out there.

Simply creating a closeable opening in the top will do the same thing...Elliot Coleman shows this in one of his books.

I added three vents to the top which allowed the trapped air to escape but not at the rate I would like. Temps are supposed to really climb by weeks end but still drop to low 40s at night. My system is too new yet to trust so I have a lot of work to do. Thanks for all the help

or you could just purchase an automatic opening vent.

No I meant 98. Yesterday the outside temp went to 84, the inside temp even with my four new roof vents were in place it was 115 degrees. I spent last nite creating curtain walls so I can roll up half of each side North and South to allow the breeze to flow thru the cloche but also allow to close it up at nite when the temps go to 40. Ill let you know what my readings are since it is 86 outside today and to be 90+ on Friday. Im pretty sure I should have some good readings today at 330 when I get home. This colorado weather has been very odd this year......84 in April then 18 degrees days later......Its so hard to grow here, we lost all of our pear, peach and apple blossoms due to excessive heat for a few weeks then 18 degree cold snap. This is what started me on the cloche, now its too darn hot and who knows whats in store for next week. Thats why its so fun!!!
