Wow, carnage at Lanterra. Another of mothers humbling fronts sweeps across the region last night bringing with it high wind and 1cm of rain.

I went to bed last night secure in the notion that the plants would be kept well against an approaching cold front. The radar did not look all that bad. The second front in two nights to pass over our rain stricken area was approaching at freight train speed. I mean a bit of rain, but the line in the LanTerra sand would surely hold anything that mother could fling my way.

The night begins like any other, safe and secure and snug as a bug. I dose off quietly sawing logs that Rip Van-Winkle never found. Suddenly at 2am I'm roused be the battering roar of rainfall bashing against the house. Strong wind gusts begin rattle the windows and I rise to the horror of my dreams. Uh, where's the hoop house over the prized 1446? Can't be, I tell myself over and over. I look around and find it strewn about the patch with the 1446 crying in the onslaught of mothers never ending convective fury.

The skies have cleared this morning as mother sounds retreat. She is headed to places far to the east. She has others to torment in the days ahead.

The plant is battered but by God still intact!

Well, Russ, I guess we are lucky here in Hanover this year as we only got the minor damage of Mother nature's fury last night. I tucked my babies all safely and clipped the hoop houses closed. I dedcided that I would soak the ground inside today but alas it is too cold and damp out there. I am still impressed with my new hoop houses and wish I had done that years ago. Dave

Yeah, eh Dave! It's been one of those days. I've been out several times during the day, shoring things up. I lost the gourd hoop house in the 8th inning during the Tigers game at 0-0. The long gourds survived and so did the Tigers, 1 zip.

The squalls are strong today almost like lake effect at times. Bright and sunny then bang dark clouds with rain and even some flurries too. Rain gauge shows another .3cm since this morning. Thornton's fields are flooding with an inch a day since last week.

We fought the high winds, rain & snow all day. Nearly sent me & the watermelon greenhouse across the fields a couple times. Good thing Jane showed up to help me out. It feels like Port Elgin Weigh off day for some reason. LOL. The weather will start to warm up this week. Good luck.

Phil
