It sounds like we lost a Leader....
Pumpkins were his medium, his message Most people just saw squash, but sculptor Sam Gendusa's vision and creativity allowed the art to emerge.
Sunday, May 21, 2006 AMY MARTINEZ STARKE Sam Gendusa's passion for art may have been more of a compulsion: Art fully occupied his mind.
"Well, I just can't stop," he said.
Fiercely proud of his 100 percent Chicago-Italian ancestry and a lover of garlicky, fiery-hot tomato sauce, he had the artistic temperament to go along with his passion.

Yes we did. Sam communicated with me a great deal back in the early 80's and was a force. As far as I know he was the first giant pumpkin sculptor. Often wondered how he was doing. He had a way about him and I'm sure he placed himself well with his maker. Rest now Sam.
