Not in the patch but in my house. I suspect that the indoor/outdoor cat that FORMERLY resided here brought them in. I tried the Raid Bombs yesterday (three of them) but them SOB's are still eating my lower legs up.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely and SMAO (Scratching My xxx Off);

If the house has been empty for a while what happens is the eggs dont hatch untill disturbed so when you move in you get a great outbreak at the start and then it tapers off. So you may have to dose the house afew times to clean them all out.

Get a dog and treat it with "Frontline". Fleas jump on dog and bingo they're dead! Ask your Veterinarian.

Like Ray said: Frontline is great stuff for the pets (Fipronil) - awesome! Get it from the vet or do a Google search. Lots of internet suppliers.

There are a bunch of tricks for rugs. A lamp set over a bowl of soapy water actually helps. The stupid fleas jump for the light, bounce off & land in the soapy water & drown. This might be fun but it isn't very effective.

You can also use Boric Acid dust. Sprinkle it on, let it sit overnight, vacuum the next morning. Take the vacuum outside to remove & throw away the bag. Adult fleas will be inside so get rid of them. You can also broom in some more Borax afterwards to kill the nymphs that emerge later & are present now. Boric acid is non-toxic to people & pets.

Jamie, On a serious side now, My wife baths my dog about every 3 weeks, and I bath her when I take her down the creek to play,(she says that dont count for a bath though), we have her dipped to prevent fleas, but Ill tell ya, this doesnt work if the fleas already made a home in the carpet. My dog would be walking around flea free while my feet would be getting ate up, I would even have my socks on and they somehow find a way to bite the hell out of my feet. dang things would still get through your socks to bit your skin,man i hated that!

we used the carpet flea powder and also used it on the furniture a couple times and this took care of the problem. Even if there isnt any fleas in the house she still uses the powder about once a month as a prevention. If you have indoor pets your going to have fleas I guess.

Brooks you bath you wife in a creek? Then have her dipped? How does she like that :) I think I could get away with bathing April in a creek...but dipping her would get me hurt.

On a serious note..Vacuum the area twice a day after treating with Boric Acid..I think the cycle is like 7 days or close.

In addition to the above, you might want to take vitamin B-complex. Seriously... When I lived in Brasil, the first month I was there I was being eaten alive on my lower legs. Someone suggested that I take the vitamins, and the problem stopped. I didn't do anything different to clean the house, which had a fairly primitive wooden floor.

Also, over time I think something changes in your body and they leave you alone. (I think.)

1320,

Be careful with those bug bombs, a pilot from the stove or water heater can cause an explosion! You may have not used enough bombs originally, also after eggs hatch you may find a second generation, you may need to re-treat. Also if you have ANY pets, they can be re-infected every time they go outside. I have also heard a little cider vinegar in the drinking water of dogs, (and probably cats), will help to ward off fleas, ticks and parasites. Hope some of this helps. I used to get bit when visiting my sister-in law's who had cats and dogs, solution was to stop going there! Good luck! After having to rent an apartment recently out of town, I have come to realize we're not alone out there!

1320........like you, the fleas really like to bite my wife's lower legs. She applies a product called Cutter Advanced Insect Repellent to her legs and it really works well (and I think she has tried just about every product on the market). She buys it at Longs Drugs or Wal Mart.
It won't remove the fleas from your house but I will protect you until you get rid of them.
The Cutter product is also odor free.
