This is the first time I have ever used liquid fish and seaweed. I read the bottle, was very excited about putting it on the garden, opened the bottle and was assailed by the most horrible smell I could have imagined! Got some on my hands and had to wash several times to get the scent off. Besides buying a haz-mat suit to apply this stuff what is the best method to handle it? I want to give my pumpkins the best possible, but my weak constitution may be put to the test on this point. Kathy

As for tough Dave, I have 5 children who were born without the use of meds and I work fulltime in landscaping, no I don't just plant pansies. I think the stuff smells like crap and kindly asked for USEFUL advise, thinking perhaps more seasoned gardeners put something with it to make it smell better. The brand name of it is Maxicrop. Thank you to all, even you Dave Kathy

Sounds like someone is eating the aforementioned high heels.
Kathy, rubber gloves, stay up wind, and use it the morn or eve before you do your normal watering so you can water the stink into the ground a little better, this may help ya a little.

Molasses will cut some of the smell to a gut wrenching sweet fishy smell. Other than that not much you can do except spray when the wind is in favor.

Is it possible that it was just rotten? I've smelled a significant difference between half a bottle of fish emulsion left in the garage over Winter and a fresh bottle. The fresh bottle just smells like I remember Cape Cod.

I think you might have "maybe" a spoiled bottle Kathy, the smell of neptunes is light and not that strong at all. The brand you have Im not sure of though, take it or send it back and try neptunes fish and seaweed and see if there is a diffrence. No sense in puking everytime you fertilize your plants.

Properly processed Fish Emulsions shouldn't smell much worse than the commercial fishing docks. Maybe Kathy just got a bad batch??? Neptune's Fish doesn't smell very bad. The Seaweed actually smells good...like living right on the beach.
Kathy,
Try a bottle from a different manufacturer.

thanks for all the tips, it may be a bad bottle, for I got it in the fall of last year and stored it in my out building until the other day. Maxicrop makes both liquid seaweed and fish, I have them both. I will try the vanilla Rog, or the molasses Carey to see if it cuts the smell a little. On another note, I just found out today that I am pregnant with our 6th child! So it may be pregger hormones making it smell worse than it is. Thanks to all

I have to agree with Big Dave, I dont really notice the smell with a beer in one hand and the sprayer in the other. Oh well. I guess thats not an option for you now with # 6 on the way. Hang in there and PLEASE let somebody else handle the chemicals for you this year, no sense in taking a chance!
