I had my newly transplanted seedlings in shelters(extremely humid) for a day and a half. I was out of town, when i checked on them when i returned they were wet with humidity and had little white spots on the stems. My plants are looking very sick, leaves are growing slowly, but vines are like wet noodles. My feeling is these plants are doomed. I didn't think PM was present at this time of year, is it?

I kind of doubt that it is powdery mildew. A couple of years I thought I had pm on my seedlings and tried to use neem oil on the seedlings. Then the sun came out and literally fried the tender, young leaves on the seedlings. I would suggest that you concentrate on drying out your shelters.

If it is dampening off, are the plants doomed? I've never had damp. of disease before. I have removed my shelters(4 days now) but the plants are still very sickly looking.

Get a good sized bag of seed starting medium. Any brand.
Dig a hole and restart using the starting medium as your planting hole. I had a nightmare last year when it was cold and wet. This is what saved my season. Once damping off is underway I have never been able, to recover, to any degree of success.

You can not buy back the lost time but the weather will warm and your restart will give you a decent chance of growing a nice fruit, in the time that is left.

About eight days from now you will not likely have cold and wet condtions. They will take right off for you.
