Wondering if anyone would have any suggestions as to a recommended water pump. I'd like to pump water out of rain barrels about 10'(10' lift) below and 50' from the patch and to run two hoses with good water pressure through a splitter. I don't know if I'd need a 1/2, 1 hp pump? Thanks ahead for any advice. Don

Don. Take a look at these 2 Honda water Pumps, i have the 1 inch WX10 and it pumps at an amazing rate for such a small pump. Here is the direct link for the WX10......

Should you want more flow then you can opt for the 1.5 inch pump......

Both pumps are 4 cycle therefor there is no messing around with mixing up 2 cycle Oil/Gas mixture and are amazingly reliable.

I have a Honda WX10 as well & they work great. Very light as well. I can fill up a 50 gal drum in under 3 min with a 1" hose.

If your buying an electric pump, go for the 1 hp. Not sure about the hp ratings on the gas pumps but I don't think I've seen rated less than 1 hp. Get as much pump as you can afford!

I have a 1/3 hp water pump from Harbor Frieght that I paid 19.95 for. It works great year after year. I watered 10 plants with it last year and it keeps right on a pumping. Regular price they sale for $29.95

I have also used the HF pump, it is a good one. Regretfully, it will not handle much lift.

one way to get around lift limits is to put a "step" barrel.
Pump into a container that is under your lift limit height.
And use another pump to make the final lift.
look into "ram"pumps. They got great lift, but you lose alot of water in the pumping action.I have seen a ram pump used after a small pump.It had lots of "waste" but made a 50' lift.

I use a 1.5 hp pump to pull water from a creek and then pump it into a 1000 gallon tank. For several years, I used a 50 yr.old 1.5 hp pump to pull water from the tank and pump it to 15 sprinkler heads or 33 overhead nozzles in the hoophouses. The old pump could not feed everything at once with adequate pressure, so I had to water in "zones". Friday, I broke down and bought a 2 hp Water Ace pump. Oh Baby...does that sucker pump water!
