Whats the best way to cure this?

Keep the entire plant under shade cloth? or just remove it and let the sun shine all day long till the plant no longer wilts ( or will it ) ? or give part day full sun / shade to get the plant use to full sun

thanks

Dave

Day Time wilting is a sign that the plant is stressed. If they're wilting they're not growing at optimum. Sometimes the soil hasn't gotten warm enough for the root structure to support the top growth and as the soil heats up the roots will develop and the wilting will stop. Many california growers have misting systems that will cool off the plant to avoid the heat stress an drop the micro climate temperature down. keep the soil moist and hope the roots will pick up. I am having the same problem right now. I planted my seeds in peat pots and transfered the whole thing into the ground. Could my root problem be due to the fact the peat pots have not desintigrated enough to free the roots yet? If so what can I do different next year?

dril a bunch of holes in your peatpots before you put seed in them... thats what I do.

Oh, and we grow under shadecloth and use overhead misting here because it can hit 110 f in summer

I'm trying to put up a mister now -- but what sort of schedule should I use? I'm in Texas and will be hitting 90 by 10 a.m. soon, staying in the 90s until after nightfall each day. But if I mist too often seems like I'd drown the thang. Ideas?

Gary in Colorado, Im having the same issues with the wilting also. I too grew mine in the peat pots with lots of holes included using the mychrozidal fungus stuff. We are having record heat temps out here. Going to hit 90's again this weekend. I have had to contiually baby sit these shading on and off, wetting a towel over the top to increase humidity wanting to get them to search for water and get the roots going. The Reiss 1233.5 doesnt wilt unless its real hot and is doing better than the Langevins, the 1204 Kline is starting to take off too. Im afraid at times to let them wilt too much at there early stage. They perk right up once covered though then off goes the cover again, I figure sooner or later they are going to grow up. I think I baby them too much.

How much can one spray the seaweed for foliar, I hear that makes them more heat tolerant. RIght now I spray them once a week with the seeweed. Along with the Argo K plan.

Day time wilting is normally caused by not enough root system to suport the plant. Some times this is caused by over watering you might want to back off on you watering.force the plant to strecth its abit normally this will work its way out after a few days with less watering. Peat pots should not be used and if they are remove them totally when transplanting. They just obsturct the plants root growth..mark

swa, use a timer with unlimited starts per day. I start my misters at 10:30 am and run them until 4:15 pm. The misters run on 5 minutes off ten when it is 90 to 100 degrees. Less if the weather is cooler. In hot southern areas, misting is a must, or shade cloth. Plants will wilt in high heat areas even with good root systems. Email me if you have any questions and I'll do my best to help. Jimmy
