I always have seen the pictures of pristine stumps sans leaves standing tall in all the heavies patches. Just when do they start pruning the stump leaves?

Chuck save yourself the trouble of having to fight off the Wood Chucks and prune it with one nice crosscut. :) We normally start pruning when the plant is almost filled out.

Chuck, maybe that's one of the things I've been doing wrong...LOL! I don't prune anything off the stump but dead or very unhealthy looking growth...usually toward the end of the season. I'm going to try hard to keep the stump area drier than in past seasons. Good luck, Duff

Ok...now I got it..when the original leaves die off I don't allow the secondary growth back on..Stump always tries to regrow some leaves...Thanks Shannon, Duff and Bart for the info!
