Question, I have read that most growers dont like double. Why??? I understand the ribben vine thing and why thats bad, but last year(rookie season), my best was grown on a double vine. This year I'v got another double started. My 891.0 NORTHRUP 2005 . Well this planty was the bigest and strongest from day 1, the cots leaves were much bigger than the rest, and the plant is by far the best. The vine/stump is more than twice the size of the rest. As long as it grows normally whats the cons to a double. Can't one just treat it like any other secondary vine when it branches? It is harder to get the vine down to the ground, so we will see if that can be done. Last year it just ploped down, but not this year. Any thoughts would be helpfull. I posted diarey pictures, should be available on sunday. Thanks.

Smoky, Joe Jutras grew a 1295 on a double vine last year and Adam Blalock grew a 961 off a flat vine. I think alot of 1000lbers can be grown off a double vine but you just dont see it that often because growers will choose to cut the double down to a single most of the time so they can manage the plant alot easier.

Ditto Brooks...If it's your only plant leave it...but it's not double the work it's three times the work..you can't turn it unless it wants to...it won't get on the ground...unless it wants to...definitly won't give an easy s curve before the pumpkin..and if a pumpkin is on it hates to be at the right angle with the flat vine...will hear a lot of celery cracks!...they're tough enough without the problems...in MHO...but on the other hand if you got the bug for growing these things..then this is your test!!! Thanks guys, maybe after it divides it will go back to normal and be easier to turn. Gotta go do some dirt moving to make the turn wider. ;)

I had a double last year. Covered one of it's vines with soil and rooted it - then cut it off the parent.. Ended up with a nice 'clone plant' growing to the left - and the 'mother' growing off to the right... Didn't get monsters - but those two vines were my most prolific fruit producers!!!
