I have a few plants that I will attempt to grow in the Christmas tree pattern, some of which have produced seconds. Should they be pruned immediately or allowed to grow out so many feet before nipping them?
I also understand that I should air dry them a day or two before burying them but should I treat the snipped portion with fungicide? If yes, past or liquid fungicide?
Many Thanks;

12' secondaries are nice if space permits.

If it is between the stump and your fruit I have let them get as big as I have space for... more leaf to feed the beast.

Any I don't want i cut right away. Keepers grow to space limit.

I like to grow 10'- 15' wide on each side of the main. I just pinch them off and bury them when they reach the edge of the patch.

Jamie, I pruned off pretty much every other secondary on my main plant last year. I let them grow for a little while, to make sure the "keeper" secondaries were forming well. When I did prune them, I cut them right near the mainvine.

Jamie,
hey, I keep the first two on each side and then pinch off every other one when they are small. I do that because I angle back my first ones on each side to entirely fill in space between the plants. I know others who pinch off the first two on each side - because they are usually really close togther. then they pinch off every other one. if you figure the average leaf size is say approx. 24 inches across- then your secondary spacing should be that also.
