The first 3-4 years of growing you worry about every little thing hail, bugs, weather, fungal deseases, ect. Most growers that take our sport or hobby to the next level are or have obbsesive behaviors. The thing I realized maybe only this year make sure your soil is good, make sure you do the basics and everything will fall in place.
Things happen cold wet month of may is normal, hail and wind damage early june, hot dry spell in the middle of july, bugs and fungal problems in mid aug,big pumpkins splitting in sept.worring about and dealing with the removal of abig ass pumpkin in oct..lol
This is the life of a big pumpkin grower but is it fun even now after all these years I'm still like a little kid waitting for christmas still amazed how fast these things grow still have dreams of the big one its dare right fun and my favorite time of the year...mark

Great words of wisdom. Mother Nature is here to stay. I appreciate everyone's suggestions for how we can "just get along" with her in this pumpkin sport. Would love to hear other veteran's "What I've learned". Thanks, Glenna

Prevention is Key. But many pumpkins are killed with to much Love.

1) Don't overspray...use 1/2 strength concentrations until you're very familiar with a particular chemical, and more is NOT better
2) Underwatering is a BIG mistake...don't skimp on this one
3) If your soil is amended well, lay off the fertilizers...you'll blow 'em up!
4) Don't "over-baby" your plants...the less you meddle the better
5) LISTEN to other growers who have been there-done-that...any idea you've come up with for the "magic" pumpkin, it's been thought of before
