Does the plants stump size play an important part in growing a big pumpkin? Have the world record holders plant stumps been larger than the average AG's stumps?

the 1407 wolf was grown on a plant that had a stump only the size a little bigger than a garden hose...while i grew an 1186 from a stump that was slightly bigger than a soda can. I have seen some stumps greater than 4 inches in diameter. crazy stuff
