Do yellow vines mean orange pumpkins? I've seen this correlation hinted at. My 603.5 Muller has very yellow vines, by the way. I do expect orange from it, based on its track record.

Sometimes but not always.

3 plants with 1016 genetics growing here with bright yellow vines, one mixed yellow and green has 846 genetics as well,,,maybe it goes back that far at least
This was bantered around in chat the other night,,seems all that could be gathered was that none of the experienced growers had ever seen a squash with anything but a "green" vine. It does make for an interesting question for discussion though.
Any thoughts or comments from other longtime growers?

I would agree that a green squash always growns on a green vine. But orange & mix color fruit can be produced on marbled colored vines. Really orange fruit often do come from plants with yellow vines...but not always. A friend grew the 846 Calai 2 years in a row...the fruit were all dark orange & the vines were yellow & green marbled.

My 603 Muller plants from last year were bright yellow and they produced dark orange pumpkins. I think that yellow vines usually equal orange pumpkins but not 100% of the time.

Every 603 I've grown has had yellow vines and orange pumpkins. Whether the two traits are dependent or independent, I don’t know.

I'm gorwing the 800 Dieffenbaugher (845 Nesbitt x 846 Jutras) again this year and the vines are mostly yellow with a little green marbling in them. Last year this plant produced the most beautiful orange fruit you have even seen!! On the other hand I also had a different plant last year with nice green vines that also produced a real nice orange fruit. I guess It's kinda a crap shoot at best, but I like the odds!!
