Is snow fencing really very effective in wind protection? My wife is almost forbidding me from using the plastic orange stuff so it may have to be the wooden type.

Maybe its just me, but my wife "forbidding" me to do anything almost always results in it happening anyways!!

Thank goodness she is a forgiving person and does not impose anything to harsh when I am a bad boy!!

I like the snow fence. It seems to do a reasonable job at cutting the wind and hence the wind damage. The problem is that it is not tall enough. Last year I put up two rows of the stuff (8' tall) and I was impressed with the job it does. I'm taking my clouches down today so the wind fence will be going up this week. The problem is finding fence posts strong enough to support 8" of snow fence.

Brian if you have the room try the 2 snow fences on the ground spaced out it will provide a better protection than one 8 foot fence.

Mark just give the wife some time.
my ole lady hated all the "yard decor" i have came up with in the past.my first year i used a old pool liner as a wind protection . oh "heck no" that didnt last long.
after awhile she got into it helps build hoop houses
pumpkin shade A frames you name she wants to help.
you might owe her a ton of 'hunny do's' but its worth it.
your plants are looking good by the way.
thanks for the emails. love the jokes!!lol

The snow fence seems to work well, I use 4' tall doubled up, two rows spaced 15 feet apart. If you put up a solid barrier the wind will just fall back down the other side and pick back up, due to the low pressure on the leeward side of the fence. So, you want some of the wind to go through, you're just more or less slowing it down at the lower levels.
