With all the rain we have had our members in ri have experience many disapointing near pollinations.
Female flowers rotting before they open, pumpkins rotting beforw they can even be pollinated. In most cases many pollinations will be way out there, and later than we would like.
Gonna need a big September like the one Dave Stelts had when he set a record several years back.
how are things in your area?

Cool, wet, humid & cloudy. Considering that I got our only plant started late, it isn't a whole lot farther behind than most. My late-start reasoning having to do with maybe the kids at school will enjopy ssing it grow rather than rot come September.

Dick....I am in the same boat as you guys. Near pollinations have all rotted due to the rain. I have not one pollination and will not be able to pollinate until at least the second week of July - if those don't rot of course. They will all be way out on the main if all goes well.....Ray Leonzi

We had a terrible late May and Early June with rain and cold, so my plants are a week and a half behind. I have females forming on 3 of 4 plants at 10 feet out, but nothing near ready for pollination. It'll be another week or 2 before mine are ready, although I see that Matt in Newmarket has pollinated one. Not to worry...lots of summer left for the big one.

your wet rain is our heat wave. Man, 101 to 107 degrees for 7 days in a row with no let up in site here in June. Craziest weather I have ever seen and way too hot for good pumpkin growth!

Mid 80's to low 90's and dry as a bone except for last Saturday's hail storm. Busted up some leaves but nothing like the devastation DA WIZ went through. STUPID HAIL STUPID HAIL STUPID .................

Dick.....same situation here. cool, rain and rot. All the females rot befor they can open. I have one last chance to pollinate on my 905, if it doesn't rot. After that the main will be out of the patch.

Rainy here as well, but no abort problems. Of course it's hard to have abort problems when there are no females on the plants. At this point I'll be lucky to get a shot at a mid-July pollination.

I'm seriously thinking about pruning the main and working a secondary about eight foot back because I'll be out of the patch with way to much pushing a new pumpkin...I think late growth is better then old growth late in the season.

I'm just seeing the first tiny females now. A little later then I'd like, but there is still time.

This is one year that seeing small females just starting this late might be a GOOD thing. Unless you have a very long patch that is.

What a crazy year. Where one of the county's that have been hit hard this year with rain. Unbelievable this past week. Patch has more mud then anything else. No males at all so far this year. I have picked off a lot of females. My 1068 Wallace has been loaded with females. Plants have been growing slow. I think most of the nitrogen has been washed out of the soil with all the rain we have had this spring. I'd probably have better luck growing rice..... but I guess I am a die hard like most pumpkin nuts and never give up.....

Beautiful spring here in the PNW 5 inches of rain over average with awesome warm temps.... Seems like the tropics! All in all, lost the early plants to a damn late frost, but have just started setting females.....
