A friend of mine is growing and has something I have never seen before, wondering if anyone can identify it. The plant looks normal except a few parts. One secondary has very light green solid colored leaves. 90% of the plant is very dark normal leaves, and then on the normal secondaries, an occasionaly leaf is half light green, half dark green, sometimes a 1/4 light, 3/4 dark. It is totally bizarre looking. It is not a mosaic for sure, pumpkins are normal and the leaf colors aren't blochy. Not from anything sprayed. Anyway, any ideas?

Could be just a "pheno type" taking place?

There are some known genes in the Maxima - which create the phenotype of yellow-green young leaves (virescent gene) and the Yellow-green leaves and stems (yg gene)...
Chances are it's more nutritionally based.. I had a similiar problem early in the season (after abnormal 'monsoon rains' and cool temps in May)... Some of my plants showed Chlorosis problems in young growth - some lost the chlorophyll in their old growth...
If I remember right - if it's old growth losing green in patches - tends to be Mg deficiency... If it's new growth suffering - tends to be Fe deficiency... Also can be Ca or S deficiencies as well...
I fertilized with a mix of Ironite (Fe + S) and Ca + Mg - problem went away within a week.....
