I'm embarassed to admit....I don't know.
Like Atlantic Giant, Prizewinner & Big Max are both cucurbita maxima (soft stem).
I seem to recall that a CT Field Pumpkin was grown over 80 lbs a couple years back.
Howden's get pretty big...

Well, I dont know what the official record is, but I have heard that somewhere around 120 has come out of some test fields in Ohio. There have been some 100+ weighed by giant pumpkin growers in Ohio as well. Welty would probably know more, but he is kind of incognito up in the bush.

I'm pretty sure the Michigan record is 89 lbs. I've heard of 100+ in Ohio. As Tom says, Nick would be the guy who would know. Anybody know what pepo variety tends to go biggest? Jumpin Jack?

For Big Hard Stem Pumpkins..They Plant Gold Rush, Jumpin Jack and Howden Biggie. Bob Wells always seems to throw a couple 80 pounders every year. I have All 3 varieties planted this year.

monty- i've decided to take a shot at a record that is within my reach.
Shannon- you are right, I will find out this fall. Too bad for you its gonna be in my garden :)
Tom- I was thinking along the same lines...120 sounds right.
Shannon again- Im growing a new variety from Rupp that's purported to be the largest producing variety available. If you want to know more, email me...

My rookie season mentor gone hard stem...oh woe is me :(
Naw...ya can't fool me. I have a few hard stems going this year too :)
Straight Conn. Field here. The wife and kids like them...but I'm treating one like a giant, pruning, training, single fruit, the works.
