it's 3:30 EST, I live in MA on the coast and a friggin funnel cloud just went by!!! Tornado's.... we dont get friggin tornados on the coast of MA!! What the helllll.....First floods, then heat, hail, and now tornados. When do the damn locust start! You got to be kidding me. Is this some strange way of the pumpkin gods messing with us. The biggest think at Topsfield this year might be the contestants! Argggggg..........

Hey John
Add freezing temps to your list and you have a normal day in our neck of the woods.

I just saw that there has been some very severe weather down your way John. It has been bad over in your area. I am only about 2 hours from you and I have never in my short life heard of so many hail warnings on the weather stations. Hopefully all this weather will go by and it will be wonderful weather in september. I know of another grower who was ready to plow under all his plants but hung into the sport and ended up winning 2 fairs and getting 3rd at Topsfield.

It's Kennedy's fault. He pulled the Chivas bottle out from under that $114M 12 ton ceiling panel. Rough day in Mass.

If John is getting that much bad weather can you just Imagine what LiPumpkin from NewYork is getting then?? ,my guess is that he had to have had at least a 9.9 on the richter scale that caved a hole in his patch 20 ft deep!! Then to top it all off, the beachball size hail filled the hole up to finish his plants off? shesh!! I hope 'G' is ok.

A tornado touched down & ripped a store apart in Hawthorne, NY yesterday. This is just 20 miles north of NYC on the East side of the Hudson. Knowing G it probably stopped in to ride the patch elephants in his patch on the way.

Maybe thats how I get a thousand pounder I find it in my driveway after a tornado, does that count?

Anything I grow, for competition, has a small skin mark only known, to me. It has never happened here but theft is an issue nearly everywhere now. If you do this make sure you record it, in your growing records. Photograph it and keep the picture.

Now if that tornado lays my pumpkin, in your driveway, I would not suggest entering, in the county fair competition.

I know your comments were in jest but it triggered something I do not think I have ever said here.

Later, in the year, my game trail camera also goes up. Again we have never had patch destruction here but I know someone not, to far away that did. Chances are very good I would have a pix, of the sucker doing me in. This kind of damage happened, to two well known growers. It made me think.

Yo DocGipe,
I understand...its is a very sensitive subject, although we know it wouldnt land very nicely......I had two of my pumkins disapear from my porch 4 years ago. It was before Ole LongBeard got me really interested and gave me a seed last year but I had two Dill Ag's 300 lb'rs removed from my porch in successive years. First one I never seen again, second one they got it twenty feet from the porch then dropped it and it cracked open......B@$terds..I even had prize watermelons disapear too,....So I was tryin to be a funny guy but realize all the efforts, time and money we spend into this sport. I still worry about them being stolen from the patch now that people know I grow...Well you know I also grow Baretta's too and they may get to take home a sovenir if I see them in my patch...!
