a very spry 93 year old former university of ri dr. and soil biologist told me that if he were to clone a pumpkin plant he would take his cutting from as close to the pumpkin as possible.( side or main ) his reasoning was that the one cell that was responsible for producing the size and shape of that pumpkin would be more apt to be captured if the clone was made from a cutting closest to the pumpkin. who am i to argue with a plant doctor who has more knowledge about plants and living organisims in one finger than i might have in my entire body. pap

Thanks, I sent out a email his way, I hope I get a response as I really am going to try this. I use to clone african violets by taking a leaf off, hardening it, then placing it in a beaker of water with root stimulants, soon I had roots, added a bit of soil and sand to get the roots use to a medium then plant it. Thing was that many time once it bloomed the flower was similar but not exact to the mother plant. This bewildered me although I liked the new flowers as they were unique. So I agree about taking the stock off closest to the main. I wonder if Mark has grown from end to end with the same plant to compare???? Additionally....

What about the 120-130 day growth period of the plant. It would appear to me to get back into the May Planting season one would need to clone multiple times. So Im growing a AG in the green house......20x20 ? Then starting another baby? Seems possible but difficult. !!!! ANYONE KNOW OF MARTIN REISS'S ADDRESS!!!! so I can BUY MO SEEDS I'M trying to convince LongBeard that Ill become his personal slave, Fix his daughters computer for life....whatever LB PLEASE.....for that extra seed he bought...Ill have to wait until Novemeber........This Reiss plant is an awesome plant....Very low to the ground which is perfect for these Colorado winds. Massive leaves.....I now have 2 females forming...12 ft out on the main.....but Im thinkin for next year already....I love this plant
