Today it just poured rain. We got 3.5 inches in 10 hours and there is standing water all over the patch. Anyone else get hit by this weather?

Yeah Dave, Monday night...it's now official....8.1 inches of rain in 3 hours. The stream flooded out the road and most of our yard. It is raining again this evening. The ground is so saturated there are flash flood warnings out everywhere. This has been one lousy summer so far!!

We could use the rain here. Maybe not quite so much at once, though.

Gee, I guess I should not complain about the first drizzle we've had in 4 weeks.

when it rains it spores. once the rain and water levels drop better hit those plants with a good dose of fungicide. between humidity and rain its creating perfect conditions for diseases.
powdery mildew will also rear its ugly head. pap

I really feel for you folks. This sport can be frustrating as we all know and even more so with this kind of rain. I have to say here in south eastern Ontario. Conditions have been excellent. We got 1.5" today and they are calling for some warmer conditions by the weekend. Look for some big pumpkins from the eastern Ontario Heavy Hitters!

You know what I thought I saw some pumpkins floating by my boat heading south in the hudson river. Enough rain already in the catskill region just glad it's not winter.

Due to excessive rain here in Holland 12 months in a year (except for this year) we are forced to have a good system for getting rid of water.
My patch works like this. Around the front and two sides of the patch (3000 sq ft) is a ditch up to 2.5 ft deep. It flows into a ditch at the back of the patch which is about 3 ft deep and 5 ft wide. This is connected to a drainage ditch leading to a river. During draught that ditch usually has a few feet of water which I use for irrigating.
In the patch, each plant (I have five) is on its own island. Around all four sides of the plant there is a shallow ditch (about a foot deep) which is connected to the side ditches. Each island is slightly higher in the middle than the sides so the water flows off better.
During the worst rain storms this spring, there was never more than 1 inch of water in the patch ditches which leaves the patch itself 11 inches about sealevel.
Each island is about 500 sq ft but you could increase that to about 700 without a problem. Any bigger and puddles will probably start to form in the patch.
The previous owner of patch (its in a community garden) always had the patch under water and everything rotted. Everybody told me it was a bad patch because of flooding but I haven't had problems yet. Although we don't get 8.1 inches in 3 hours, we can have it rain every day for 14 days in a row.

Pap's fungicide alert is very good advise. This is just about the perfect weather for it. Keep them as dry as you can going into the evening hours.

Approx. 6" or a little more here in W. Ky. here during the last 72 hrs. Scattered showers and T/storms in the forecast for the next 10 days or so...sorta out of the norm for here, for this time of year. Hoping it dries out some soon, and get some SUN. Peace, Wayne

One extreme to the other this year it seems now. We go from a week of seemingly endless rain right into a week of 90+ degree temps!! Gonna be just lovley pollinating this week!! not!! Been staying up on fungicide treatments to help ward off anything.
