It's time to cover the Volleyballs and put sand under them... What do I need to mix with the sand to help stop future rot?

Just use clean sand. If you like something more open up a synthetic feed bag and put it, on the sand. Then as the fruit develops pack wet sand in the "> < at the base of the fruit. This relieves some downward pressure and may help prevent cupping on the bottom. When they cup that is space the pulp can not fill, to add weight.

If rodents are a problem in your patch then the addition of copper screening or pulp mill fabric is good insurance. Properly placed, pulp mill fabric also permits easier pumpkin "wiggle".

Tremor is correct but the "Teach" needs it within a day or two. There is no time to gather in the best support which is pulp mill fabric.
