We started culling the smaller pumpkins on our secondary vines this morning. On the 1420 LaRue, many of the small pumpkins had significant cracks (one quarter inch deep by two inches long) in them mostly on the shoulders of the pumpkins. Does that typically mean too much water? We have two good ones going on the main that are not cracked so far but I'm a bit worried they will go that direction too. What should we do? Cut back on the water? We are watering for 20 min. every other day with soaker hoses. We have 900 feet of hoses buried and zigzagged over the 3,000 square foot patch with six plants going.

many pumpkins can crack from genetics, sometimes it just happens. Watch for inconsistant watering where the soil goes from dry to wet causing growth spurts. I doubt you are over watering. I say it is better to water everyday just a little bit than every other day where the soil dries out more.

I would keep with every other day, it never gets hot out there, you could get some mold or other fungus issues if it stays wet constantly
