My 555.5 ZAYCHKOWSKY 04 has the largest leaves compaired to my other plants. I posted a picture in my diary of one thats 31" across. Anyone have bigger?? The size of these things still amazes me.

BIG LEAVES USUALLY INDICATE "FAT SOIL"

Big leaves break easier under their own weight. Wind will destrot them also. Small leaves are better, Bryans 805 pukos plants all have small leaves abd do better in the long run,

a leaf at 55" across? 4 ft 7" ? id sure like to see a picture of that . ive never seen a leaf 55" across.

yes your growth is great. i hope the leaves are there come mid august.

i say that only because anytime we have had those very large leaves they ended up taking a beating especially during a rain and wind storm.

the soil was composted to the bajesus belt in our old patch.
big leaves everywhere but nothing to compair to yours.

when soil is very high in organic matter its refered to as fat soil by the so called experts in soil research.

last year I removed every other vine on most plants for better access and more importantly better ventilation primarily against PM which has been a battle for me. With wider spacing between vines leaves fill in and get quite large with taller stems on some plants. When the winds blew the large leaves had a tendancy to topple vines no matter how well rooted and pinned down. Large leaves also broke at the top of the stem or the stem would break or fold at the base. This year I only trimmed very few weak secondaries or if I had some that were unusually close I would prune them or terminate early. My leaves are much smaller and i have some overlapping on some plants and not on others, however when the wind blows, and we have had more than usual high winds, the smaller leaves are able to "roll over" with a heavy gust and then snap back to normal with no damage to the leaf and no vines topple. I also believe I have a much larger root system on my plants this year with more secondaries and a larger root system. Better cooling ability, less stess, more nutrient uptake....

ok, so "fat" soil is good right?? I did improve the soil alot from last year with manue. But the 555.5 ZAYCHKOWSKY 04 leaves still are alot bigger than my 1097 beachy grown in soil just as good. Yes i do lose alot of leaves do to their size, so i wish they were a little smaller. I cover my vines so only the leaves break, not the vines. I'm kinda in a hollow, so i get good wind protection, especially in the summer.

On the Central Coast of California we receive very little adverse weather during the Summer, ( SLO is 15 miles from the Pacific Ocean). In fact SLO weather is great all year long with an average temp of 74f. It is a BIG concern of mine that the leaves are healthy mid August and beyond. Time will tell. So far things look great on the front end of this years grow, it's the back end I ma concerned about. Grow BIG!
