If you go to my diary you will find both of my fruits buried at the vine section. Let the fruit get as big as you can without creating vine stress, then reach under the vine and pull the tap root out. Your fruit will be fine, and will start to rise upward for you, along with your vine. The most important part of all of this is to have plenty of preset turns in the vine to give you alot of play as the fruit grows.

You'll need to undercut the vine to get it loose to permit pumpkin growth. The small loss of roots is a small price considering the potential implications of NOT permitting lift.

I am putting more pics in my diary now of tonites shots of a pumpkin set with a buried vine. I usually do this for a few weeks to get as much as I can from this tap root.
