well, now that we have beat the hell outta that 55 inch leaf lets talk stems. is a big leaf stem really that important? or is is more so how it performs verses length. length vs girth? firm vs soft? i tend to like a large leaf stem. one that grows along with the fruit so i never need shade protection. LOL more cartoon material? pap

Does size really matter? I thought what we are concerned about is pumpkin size?

Does a bigger stem move a higher vollume, of food, like a larger hose moves more water. Do we lose fruit growth packing in a huge plant and heavy vines? What was the aveage size, in square feet, of canopy of the world record fruit? How many record producing patches were sustainable? Why? How many were not? Why?

All joking aside our best pumpkins ( ever) both had above average wide stems. ( id guess softball size ) at the area where it forms. in answer to doc question. i do believe a large wide stem does deliver maximum fuel to the pumpkin.

Short, fat and stubby on seeds from my fruit I grew last year. Sure would be nice to have a long stem but Im used to that and will just have to work with what I got and not let the laughing bother me,, I mean not let the short stem get in the way of my growing,,,,,,,no, I mean not let a little one bother the way it grows,,,well, its not the size of the stem but the motion of the growing that counts...

Biggest I have ever had personaly was 21" circumference on the fruit's stem, but the fruit split on a rib/dill ring junction Biggest I have ever seen was on the 1370 at 23" circumference that stem alone must have weighed 20 pounds. I have personaly had equal luck on fruit size with skinny and very healthy stems as the very large stems.
