Gary,

You have a leaf stalk that is over 50" tall????

Assuming you're not talking about corn, I'd wager someone had a heavy hand with some GA3. LOL

Let me take a wild guess... you don't have a lot of sun in that part of the patch?

it is in the middle of the patch, only foliar of molasses a couple of times, and kelp once

I think it is from the 1233 Reiss plant, but the 781 Frantz is pretty close to that height

Steve, what is GA3?

I will post some pics

geberlic acid is what ga 3 is. another folish thing to use or introduce into the plants rooting system. one of the benefits is that its supposed to increase the cell and root structure. plenty of other natural soil and root fungi and such on the market. no need to fool with that stuff.

So the patch is shaded part of the day? The leaves are reaching for the sky to get to the light!

we live in the city, have 6' fences, one to the east, and one to the west, the plant is about 8' from each fence, so it has morning and evening shade. Last years plants didn't grow this high

The reason I believe they are growing for the light is that my second patch is between a chain-link fence and a 10ft shed. The patch is 7ft wide. Last year I grew a Holland in that patch and the leaves were up to the top of the chain link fence ie. 48in. The leaves just kept geting taller through the season. I hope you get a nice pumpkin from that plant.
