I am growing a plant I want to clone, My question is, should the clone be off the Main, as in Mark S.'s discription, or can a clone be taken from a side vine, without comprimising the plant for next year's growth
Thanks in advance

It shouldnt matter Eddy. Welty and I talked about that a few years back and he said he did some reading for a class that suggested the chance was something like 1 in 1000 that the DNA would change in a given plant from one vine to another or at some point along the vine. I tend to listen to the molecular biologists..LOL

I've used sides...Mosaic Virus will infest either one.
Bury a 36-48" window box under the chosen tip. Stake, then bury a node & wait. Cut it off & you're on to the enviable task of jumping boxes all winter. LOL

I used a side vine from the 801 stelts that grew the 1049 Koch and that produced cuttings that grew a near 600 lber and over 700 off a clone for beachy and welty.... I would just do whatever is easiest to use to clone...
