My pumpkin was growing at the rate of 4 to 5 inches per day until this past Sunday. It was 39" circ. On Sunday I put a shade up over it using 4 stakes and and old bedsheet. The sheet is just at the top of the stakes so no airflow was disturbed. From Sunday until this afternoon (4 days) my pumpkin has only grown 3" total. It is now 42". The plant looks great (leaf problems taken care of) and I have done nothing different as far as fert and water. The pumpkin is not getting soft, the stem is fine and I see no splits on the vine.Is it possible the lack of sun on the fruit caused the lack of growth or do I just have a dud punkin?

from reading this site for over a year, I would say it has NOTHING to do with the shade of the pumpkin

It may be that the plant has decided to abort the fruit. Hard pill to swallow but I have seen it at that size before. Probably has nothing to do with the shade structure unless you severed the main with one of the stakes....

I think Peace Wayne unfortunately has had similar issues with large sized aborts. We will hope for the best and let us know if it resumes.

yeah, nothing to do with the shade cloth, sounds like an abort unfortunately

The question is, is it still shiny? Sometimes they just take a little break and resume growth. Crossing my fingers for ya Hoots!

It may have slowed down due to the heat.
