Anyone every suffer damage from cats in the pumpkin patch? My farm patch has three kitten, probably not more than 6-7 weeks old, that we discovered today. They followed me all around and had a great time playing among the leaves and my shade structure for my 670 Daigle. They are cute as the dickens, but I'm worried they might do some damage to the pumpkins. I'm also worried that if they follow me around too much, I'll step on one......... Alan

I have two cats and they don't mess around the patch. Only thing is they use it as a litter box. cody

i don't like them pooping out there, but it's worth it when he pops out from under my best plant with a mouse in his mouth.

I have 3 cats in the neighborhood that I see in the patch everyday. I too was worried about them, but in 3 years they have never done any damage. I agree about the mice...I've never seen one in my patch!

Never any damage from my patch helper. He actually likes sitting under the leaves on the cool soil. I love it when a squirrel comes to the patch when he is in there....don't worry about cats in the patch.

Thanks for the replies. It seems that someone from town drove out and dumped them in the trees by the farm. They were out there again today and were fun for the kids to play with while I worked. The owner of the farm is taking them in and feeding them.....to get rid of the mice in the barns. Thanks again Alan

We have a patch cat. I caught him about to sharpen his nails in a fruit once. Garden hose was handy. He's been fine ever since & also no mice though he leaves dead bodies at the door once in a while.

It's even more fun when the cat's catch the snakes and want to bring them in the house. My Doberman chases the rabbits out of the patch. We fenced the patch but the rabbits get under the gate. Another thing to fix.

Just be careful of the cats trying to sharpen thier claws on the fruit....i have had that happen...but it didnt do any bad damage..the fruit was old enough at the time to take it...just got some outside scratches and tiny little claw holes in the skin.
Up here in the north, we cover with blankets at night and the cats like to mess around with the blankets to stay warm and stuff...its just annoying...nothing else
