I have a split in the stump of my 1173 which has healed over, but there still is a tiny opening into it. I have wood bugs going inside the split. Will they cause problems?

Dave, wood bugs eat decaying organic matter and generally are not an issue for pumpkin growing. That being said, I don't think they are helping you if they are eating anything inside the split.
I'd give them a quick shot of something to scare them away.
