I have them swarming around my pumpkins and cucumber plants. Are these the squash vine borers?

Are you talking Cabbage butterflies? If so the are swarming because they are thirsty they will no no harm to your pumpkins.

The agronomist I work with says they are a predator and not harmful. They are everywhere though. They seem to thrive in the 90 degree heat.
